Today’s workday is more digital than ever. Employees spend more than six hours a day on
screens, and it’s taking a toll on their eyes, energy and performance1.
Nearly 9 in 10 employees report tired, dry eyes, headaches or blurry vision by the end of
the day, and 71% say eye fatigue and/or light sensitivity prevents them from performing
their best. Yet vision care is often overlooked in workplace wellness strategies.
When employees can’t see comfortably, they can’t perform at their best. Supporting eye
health isn’t just a benefit; it’s a business imperative.
Findings from the 2025 Transitions Optical Workplace Wellness Survey show that vision strain is impacting employee performance:
68% say bright or changing light interferes with their ability to excel
49% say vision issues from prolonged screen time have made it harder for them to focus
42% experience productivity loss due to light sensitivity
Yet conversations about eye health remain scarce: only 34% of employees say eye health
is regularly discussed at work, and 70% say that when they experience eye fatigue or light
sensitivity at work, they convince themselves it’s just part of the job.
Despite the lack of conversation around eye health, employees are looking for benefits
that meaningfully support their vision and performance. Sixty-seven percent recognize the
importance of annual eye exams, covered in premium vision plans, for early detection of
eye diseases, and 63% for solutions to issues such as light sensitivity, strain and dry eye.
Offering vision benefits that include premium lens options can improve comfort, focus
and productivity, delivering value for both employees and the business.
